Some analogical discussion of fatphobia, poorphobia, Islamophobia. This topic is personally enraging to me and I don’t promise I can treat it fairly.] I recently had a patient, a black guy from the worst part of Detroit, let’s call him Dan, who was telling me of his woes.Older women should be cynical about younger men who claim they want to date seriously, or remain silent about commitment. Women peak somewhere in their twenties for external attractiveness. In general, men disagree about the age at which women "peak" - partially because it varies depending on the woman and partially because guys have different taste. But I think it also has to do with the difficulty that men have distinguishing between external and internal attractiveness; often the latter is confused for the former. A woman's attractiveness doesn't take a swan dive after 30.
But later that night I was browsing the Internet and I was reminded of what the worse response humanly possible. What follows are my observations from that time in my life. For the purpose of this post, by "older women" I do not mean old women or women of any certain age or age range; I mainly mean women who are older than the man in question. Older women are more confident and comfortable around men - especially younger men, since they know that their experience cancels out some of his natural power over her. Some men know that older women are easier to nail, which is often why they pursue them.I’m hard-working, I’ve never missed a day of work until now, I’ve always given a hundred and ten percent. And meanwhile, I see all these rich white guys (“no offense, doctor,” he added, clearly overestimating the salary of a medical resident) who kind of coast through school, coast into college, end up with 9 – 4 desk jobs working for a friend of their father’s with excellent salaries and benefits, and if they need to miss a couple of days of work, whether it’s for a hospitalization or just to go on a cruise, nobody questions it one way or the other.
