Samantha Karlin is the Director of Global Engagement and Gender Equality at Ashoka, where she innovates new ways to accelerate Ashoka’s 1200 female social entrepreneurs.
She also advises Ashoka in a gender capacity, helping country teams across the world to better recruit female fellows and help them scale.
This network activation is critical towards sparking a global movement.She is currently producing a podcast, Disruptive Women, that explores the challenges female innovators face in the most restrictive societies.She holds a master’s degree from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy in Gender Analysis and International Negotiation.However, in far too many countries, legal, financial, social, and attitudinal barriers prevent girls from becoming changemakers or leaders, trapping them into lives of child marriage, sex slavery, or domestic servitude. Yet Silicon valley thrives, in both new discoveries and financial resources.In other countries, girls don’t believe in themselves and/or lack the confidence to become entrepreneurs. Thus, there is a need to create a bridge between the innovation and gender equity field.
